It's more how you style it than the actual product you use. Any light hold gel will do. Rub it through your hair when it's wet. Then blowdry with a medium sized round brush, almost curling it away from your face.

Get a flat iron and use it to flip the sides back like that. You can use gel or pomade (Garnier Fructis makes both and they're both good). Or you could use a round brush and blowdry your hair back like that. Good luck!

If your hair is straight or nearly straight its cute if you pull it back in a ponytail but only pull the hair on the sides up and leave the back down and then tie it and then get some of those things that are leather or plastic and the stick goes through them. they are awesome.

I have long hair and every time I use even the tiniest amount of hair styling product (mousse, styling creme, etc.), I get acne behind my ears. I even clean my forehead and behind my ears after styling my hair, but I guess my pores still get clogged from my hair touching my skin. How can I prevent the acne?
Try switching products. Maybe even use a clarifying shampoo to get all of the build-up out at least twice a week. Otherwise, I would definitely talk to a dermatologist or your doctor.
Use aloe without alcohol on citric acid, as a styling product it should not irritate your skin.

I am a guy who has thick, straight hair. I'm sure other guys have a problem like this too. My hair is deep red with a tint of brown. Where my cowlick is my hair gets fuzzy after I wash it. If your hair is really that thick then have a stylist thin it out a bit with "Thinning Shears" and add layers to give the hair texture and versatility with style.

I wear glasses, have a round face, with long(probably mid-back length) straight hair(when it's dry. when it's wet there's some wave to it) thats rather thick. Which order should I go in - hair cut first, then perm, or perm first, then style? I don't want bangs, but otherwise I'm pretty open. Any ideas? Be realistic in your expectations. Any hairstyle where you have to alter your natural texture may also mean that you will have high maintenance to keep it looking that way.
It would be a good idea to go to the same stylist (it would be nice if the stylist) has experience doing all the services that are required for the style that you desire.
Bring a picture or two to the salon and show it to the stylist. Ask questions. Also, try to get a style that you won't have to spend two hours every morning doing. Ask the stylist to show you how to style your new hairstyle.
A good stylist shouldn't become impatient if you ask a lot of questions. It's your hair and you want to look good. If she/he tells you that Meg's style is not right for you, ask the person to show you a style that would be more appropriate. If you don't feel comfortable for whatever reason, leave before the service.
Your best bet is to go to a place that has a good reputation and if you feel that they treat you well.

I don't know to much about perms since I'm black and we use relaxers, but I know you should get the perm first then cut it, because if you cut then perm, the hair might turn out being uneven. There's a chance that your hair will be uneven if you perm then cut but atleast it going to be styled so you can't tell, also talk to your stylist, they should know the best route to go

do not even waste your money. that is a cheap flat iron that you can get at your local beauty store for about 15$. you need to add 25$ with the 50$ that you were gonna spend on that one and get a professiona one like a chi, made by farouk, or the hardcore by tigi. the hardcore is cheaper, and i LOVE it better. professional irons smooth and seal the cuticle of hair as you slide down the hair. this makes it extremely soft and shiny, but you must get a good flat iron spray to use with them. this protects your hair from the heat. try the "flat iron and shine spray" by tigi. its part of their s factor line. feel free to email me with any other questions. hope this helps.

I have thick hair and I get a lot of compliments how thick and healthy it is but for about 20 years I have had the 80s layered look and it almost looks like a mullet before I moved I cut it myself (which was dumb I know I was trying to save money) then I had a stylist shape it before I relocated.
Now I want to grow it all out one length so it will look updated in style and professional when I go back into the work force.
What are ways to style my hair while it is growing out what is a godd shampoo conditoner and gel to use that does not cost a lot of money. I can blow dry it back but it is still a little too short to pin the layers back without looking silly or goofy.

Well normal hair growth is 1/2 an inch a month so it will take awhile to get to your shoulders unless it grows faster than normal. It will go through that aw full stage ( if it isn't already) were you'll feel like you can't do anything with it.Just hang in there and get it trimmed and maybe keep it wispy and fringed around your face to show that you are a female and keep the back trimmed short until the rest of your hair can move down but not so short it looks like a mans cut. Okay, well, everyone's hair grows at different rates, so the thing to do is to have a goal in mind, and remember to get a trim every six to eight weeks, since you're growing it out. The trimming will keep your hair healthier, and avoid the "in-between stages frustration and hack job". If you have a good stylist, they will have some good advice and know your hair better than any stranger, and will help you grow it out to best suit your face shape and lifestyle.
It will probably take up to a year to grow your hair shoulder length. As for cut, something with layers because your hair is thick. What I suggest is go to a salon and ask a stylist (with a cut you like) what she thinks would look good on your face. They are trained to have an eye for those kinda things. The reason for picking a person with a cut you like is that you two probably have the same taste.

First, leave it down, use a mousse to make it look great.
Second, you can leave half of it down and just put up half of it with a barette.
Third, you can make a pretty pony tail, it shows your face but we still see your curly hair in the back.
You can braid it or put it in piggy tails.
Personnally, I do two big French braids on top of my head and then I finish in a pony tail, it looks great and you can go to the beach or even take a nap and it doesn't move from an inch!

Right now I have a graduated bob, jaw length, lots of layers, with my natural dark blonde color. If you live in the UK you might be able to find a good wax product called Unisexy and its by a company called Fish, I think, its in a little orange tub but lasts ages, that'll do for the spikey-ness, oh also a good bottle of Tony + Guy hair spray.
As for the dye, I suggest 'www.beeunique.co.uk' [I realise I've been typing it wrong to everyone else, sorry!] but thats the website, it sells Manic Panic hair dye which comes in all sorts of bright ranges. I think you should go for something like Blue or Green. That'd look cool.

hey, i'm a mid-teenage guy and i've recently started to notice my hair falling out. It is medium-long and every time i shower, i notice around 20-30 strands of hair coming out. I used to use styling gel and other hair style products, but i've stopped ever since i've noticed this problem.

I have to wash my hair every morning. I can't do it before I go to bed because at night seems to be when my hair gets the oiliest. I am extremely warm when I sleep. I very seldom use hair styling products because I don't like how they feel on my hair. What can I wash my hair with that will remove the oils but not dry or damage my hair so bad?
Make sure you wash your hair in hot water. Hot water takes out some of your hairs natural oils. Also blow drying your hair will take out some oils.
Use KMS clarifiying shampoos, they work wonders, i have oily hair and they have helped me, i would have such a rough time without, (i model)

head and shoulders sampoo and conditon its a natrul wayt to keep it sliky fresh clean and not oily
Head and Shoulders. Oily hair is good in that your head makes alot of natural oil and you won't need all the chemicals. But if it's too much...the stech is bad when you wash your hair. head and shoulders really helps in the fact that it takes out the chemicals from products and it takes out excess Natural oil leaving it light weight and free. Trust me I use it. And advice would be if you find a shampoo tha works for you, STICK TO IT. use it and make a routine of it. Changing your hair products too much, weather it be shampoo or stylign gel, takes a big toll. Head and shoulders puts in moisture and helps it from becoming dry without screwing your hair over without drying it out.
When you wash it use warm-hot water. Cold water when you're sure everything's out. Hot water doesn't add to the oil and with head and shoulders it makes sure it gets it all out. Blow drying is good too if you can't afford to air-dry. But take your time. Heat is good, but too much makes your hair dry and brittle.
And for when you sleep which gets your hair dry, try wrapping it. Like tie it up (not too tight so that it doesn't generate heat from the friction and make oil). Like use a scarf or Du-Rag thingy to keep your hair away from your body and neck.
When I was recently waiting for a haircut at the local hair salon, I noticed an old guy was also waiting for a haircut- His hygene was a bit vile- His outer ears were caked with earwax, and his hair looked to be super greasy from seldom washing it..I felt bad for whoever had to cut his hair....

Yes I've had that happen. That's when I give them a free shampoo. The dirt/grease from their hair makes our scissors and clippers gross and I can not contaminate another customer.

Normally, I use mousse for volume/body.
But, for moisture, Sunsilk's 24/7 creme is AWESOME if you want your hair smooth, hydrated and non-sticky. It is inexpensive and it also makes your hair smell lovely! =)
For shine, I use John Freida's glossing mist. It makes flyaways stay in place without the heaviness and hardness of hair spray, while making your hair shiny! =)

Well it shouldn't be too hard since it's very common. It's best to find a picture to print and show to your stylist, but if not, it seems to be a bout 2 inches in length around the fringe and top, but the sides seem to shorten gradually. To style it, use hair clay or molding putty if you don't like gel.
ask for a choppy/messy but smooth sort of look (confused u?lol) and maybe kinda describe what look u want. dont like gel? try surf wax. just go easy on it tho. dont want a look that looks like u've used glue

Get a good quality conditioner and nourish it with it at least twice a wk. It will be dry and brittle so protect if your drying with hair dryer
this may sound stupid, but try Fabric conditioner for a few weeks before you do the drastic thing and have the chop!
If you post your picture I will be able to tell you. If you aren't sure just get it cut to a length you can cope with and keep going back and getting it trimmed every 4 weeks until the damaged hair is gone.
try a good hair conditioner for dry/damaged hair (like Kerastase), and condition every day. apply only on roots and not on the scalp or it will make your scalp oily. good luck

Hairdressers will ALWAYS want to cut it off - don't do it.
Even when you go to the hairdressers for a 2 inch trim they will always try and convince you it's broken half way up and you really need six to eight inches off!
Get what you want taken off (and make sure you INSIST they do not exceed this...in my experience they have a nasty habit of lobbing off whatever they think you 'need') and then ask them to do a deep conditioning treatment which I think usually costs around 鎷?2 (although this will vary salon to salon).
At home you can use stuff like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle or other deep conditioning treatments to keep it looking a little healthier and just get regular trims till it grows back in all healthy again.
Go to wal- mart and get this stuff called infusium 23 it works really good for damged hair
buy a multi coloured wig and in that way , it wont damage your scalp and it will also save you money and effort in future lol

DON'T listen to her. You don't have to cut it that short. You just need to take care of it. Here are some products that work great for dried out hair and over processed hair...I've tried them all, this is just what helps for me...

I kind of like the pink, it looks good on you. Just let your hair grow back. I think the roots will look good with the pink whether your natural color is dark or light. Stick with pink is my advice.
You can try to use a creme rinse and a leave in conditioner. Also, don't brush your hair too much and do not use curling irons, hairdryers, or die your hair AT ALL. If that doesn't work, then you'll probably have to get it trimmed.
Just get trims every 4 to 6 weeks. Just have her to take the very tips off. Tell them you want less than a 4th inch off. At the salon they have a product called Redkin Extreme Antisnap. It is a leave in that works on your hair all day. It is for dry, brittle and distressed hair. Also look for Chi Silk Infusion. This is a serum to help protect and smooth it while you blow dry. Put both of these in your hair while it's wet. Style as desired.I am a hair dresser My hair is damaged I have color and a perm and the pool messed my hair up bad. I also you this products on my hair everyday. They do make a difference! With gettin trims and using these products your hair will back into good shape. Unless you are coloring and highlighting it alot. which the products help with too. What the hair dresser should have told you is to have it all healthy at once you should have it cut off, But you could also do it my way which is a process but you get to keep your hair.. Have a good trim and use mild shampoo and a rich conditioner. Try lush shampoo bars as they are natural and mild. I've used them for 2 months now and my hair feels so different.
Also when you've washed and dried your hair put a tiny bit of coconut oil on the ends to protect it, but not too much as it will be too greasy. They say hair 'oiling' is very good and nourishing for your hair, and when you wash your hair only wash the scalp and not the ends. It will take some time to get your hair in a better condition, I had the same problem and cutting it and leaving it (no colouring, heavy drying, bleaching) got it right, - it took 18 months or so!
i know what you mean, my hair used to be really damaged too. i would recomend you get a couple of inches off the end, just so it doesnt completely split, and use intensive conditioners and products like that ALOT! try and give your hair as much of a break from straighteners , dying etc as you can and hopefully it should seem a little better.

try these tips first.
*use ethnic hair products
*never rub your hair together (like between your hands)
*use moisturizing products not protein
*don't put shampoo directly on hair. put in hand and rub them to emulsify and pat on length and roots. scrub roots and finger comb thru ends.
*TOWEL DRY without rubbing hair together (very important)
*conditioner same way as shampoo and rinse with cool (as cold as you can stand it) water.
*only shampoo every other to every 3rd day
using these tips can save you a lot of time in the long run as well as a lot of money and heartache, too.
*once your hair is dry DON'T TOUCH IT.
*also check your brush. if it has little balls on it and ANY balls have fallen off - get a new one. the missing balls will cause split ends.
*check your comb. if the plastic is starting to peel - get a new one.
*brush dry hair - comb wet hair
*use product on damp not wet hair
*do not blow dry completely dry if wearing it curly.

What I have tried that works is White Rain Styling Gel, though I have to use a good bit to fight frizz. I also like Finesse Mousse for Curly hair. Also try Loreal Vive shampoo and conditioner in the orange bottles. I forget what it is called, but it is for frizz control also. Make sure you air dry or use a diffuser.
My friend swears by the V05 products, but I haven't tried them. I advise you to start cheap and experiment. The White Rain gel is very cheap and it works for me. I wish I had tried it before the more expensive products. Good Luck. I feel your pain!

Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Styling Creme. Gives you definition without being sticky and heavy. Add a drop of bumble and Bumble Defrizz and it's even better.
This is my personal mixture for my hair (super, super curly)
Mix together (in the palm of your hand) some good leave-in-conditioner (I like Parnevu for extra dry hair), some hair gel (something with a light hold, but not too sticky. Just use your fav. It works good with most gels), and finally some hot water. You want a sort of thick consistency.
Apply to hair using your fingertips (don't over saturate it).
Your curls will hold beautifully without being hard and sticky or frizzy.

If you don't already have them. I would get layers cut into it. The best thing to do is give it a little body and curl by putting large hot rollers into it.

It depends on what kind of hair you have. If you have thin hair then layers would probably look good on you. I have thick hair and I recently got layers, so beware, if you have curly hair then it will probably get curlier. Layers give volume and body, so don't get them if your hair is already poofy.

You can do one of two things...
Love it or fight it!
First, try love it! really love your hair just as it is! Go for more curl...try some products like "frizz ease" or curling gels to enhance your curls and make them more defined. Go with a big curly pooffy style, try drying with a diffuser to keep frizz away...maybe with a colorful head band or braids near the front to keep it out of your face.
Or fight it! there are some really great straightening irons (not too expensive) that can tame your curls and give you a straight style if you have the time to fuss with them.
Either way just play with it, enjoy it and feel beautiful with what you have.

I agree with Nida, Garnier has great products like the curl and shine collection. It works for both wavy and/or curly hair. They also have great mousses and sprays to hold your look.

None of them are gentle on your hair. All heat appliances damage the hair a little bit. Use any type of styling product to help protect and shield your hair from the heat a little as well as some kind of heat protection spray. Everyone makes them; find good ones at a salon or get decent ones at the drugstore-I know V05 has a heat protection spray.

I think its very good, it can smooth out little flicks if you use quite alot, its not as good as a straightener but it does definatly smooth out the hair, its straight but with some volume.
Sunsilk straightening shampoo, then blow dry straight. However in most cases you will need to use a straightening iron if you want it perfectly straight.
Hi, I'm a hair stylist. Leave-in conditioner before you blow dry and a serum after that should do the trick. Some great brands to try are Garnier Fructis and Frizz Ease. Hope this helps!
I think so. I don't use gel, or spray, or anything. Even shampoo and conditioner will leave a build up on your hair over time. Once a month I rinse my hair with vinegar to get rid of all the gunk. It makes it shinier and it feels great! (apple cider vinegar for dark hair, white vinegar for light hair)

Well what you are trimming is your damaged ends that can get broken due to brushing or tight pony tails, etc. Hair grows from the root so you are not cutting it so that it grows. You are cutting off anything that can be damaged, some people say cut it every 3 months, but that is because it gets damaged due to using products, but since you are not using products you may need to cut it less often. Also as far as finding a good hair dresser I am sorry that you have had bad experiences, I have had my share too. What you can try is go into a reputable place where a hair dresser has to be licensed and experienced before working on clients. Also before you sit in a chair tell them what you want and ask them if they think they can do what you are asking them to do for you. Again, I am sorry that you have had bad experiences with your hair.

Eventually your hair will need a trim every once in a while to keep it healthy. You get split ends from brushing and/or combing your hair. When you go to the hairdressers just tell them specifically what you want. Also usually if you tell them you are scared of getting your hair cut they are extra careful. If they don't do the job right then don't pay them. Watch how much they are cutting in the mirror and if you see them putting the scissors to high then stop them.

Also, the condition of the ends will deteriorate so it's a good idea to just snip them off occasionally.
go somewhere other than greatclips. some places actually have a set amount of time to work on someone's hair, no matter how long they actually need. often times on guys this time is only 10 minutes. it is very hard to make a good haircut in that short amount of time! if you are really paranoid, then bring in a picture of what you want, maybe an old picture of yourself that you really liked your hair in. pictures always make it easier on the stylist; otherwise they just have to guess what you want.

over time you will get split ends. Triming once every 6 months like half an inch if you really take good care of your hair. So twice a year to look best but you can do it 1 time a year. If you choose not to its up to you I think it will look fine.
Yes! My grandmother didn't cut her hair until she was 59 years old. You think she had long hair? Well she didn't, she had 2 or 3 single strands of hair that mage it to her waist, most of it was just above the middle of her back and looked horrible because ever strand had split ends!
You just need to find a hairstylist that you can trust and relate to. Most hair salons give free consultations. Let him/her know that had horrible experiences in the past. If you feel comfortable then book in for an appt. See at least 3 first though to see who you feel the best with. Then start out slow, get them to only trim half an inch, make sure they show you how much that would be and if they get that right you can start to trust them with more.

i have been using hair clay to style my hair, however the hair clay does not seem to be "strong" enough to keep my hair in style. Everytime i finish styling my desired hairstyle, the style will only last for about 5-10 mins before "collapsing" back to its original position. Is there any tips to keep my hair in style or any hair product that can do the job?
you have several options and i suggest you try a travel or sample size of each:
-gel (this will make your hair dry but holds well)
-mousse(this is lighter then gel but has teh same affect)
-hairspray(try aerosol it holds very long)

Flip out the ends and tease the hair around your crown area. If you don't have any bangs, you can try to cut some and style these into your face (right above your brow and down the side of your cheek). A cute finishing touch would be a thick black headband, but keep the bangs in the face.

like if my hair had gotten too dry from being outdoor and i use gel or antifrizz serum it starts looking great.i keep using the same thing and it works for several days.after that it goes weird.becomes like cotton.it may even be soft still but no definition.curls and waves dont stay together.then i oil it or something and it still doesnt get right.but when i change what im doing after a while it looks gud again.i cant figure out what kind of balance is being upset and how to keep it looking gud.it like luks gud seemingly like an accident.can any1 help.also i live in a very humid area

Okay, when you style your hair with products at first, no matter the condition of your hair, it will stick in at first. But if you want it to last.. your hair has to release its natural greases. To do this only wash your hair every OTHER day.
With curly hair it take more time for it to become greasy, rather than stright hair which can become greasy in just hours. It takes longer because of the curls.
If you have curly hair you should only wash it once every two days. Anymore makes your hair have less body. When you wash your hair and it has'nt had enough grease, it makes your hair totally flat.
So really, there is no need to wash your hair daily if your hair is curly, simply because it's not dirty and does not need washing.
Try washing it every other day from now on, you can wash it once a day sometimes, but try not to make it a habbit.
You can continue styling it as you please, it will work now every time, since it will not be flat anymore.
Wash it every other day, like I've said and I bet you'll see a huge difference :)
Are you putting too much stuff in? How often do you wash your hair? Blow dry with a diffuser?
One thing that will help your hair obtain it's natural oils (which will help with the lack in definition) is to straighten it the 2nd day.

If you just use water to clean your hair, you'll wash the sweat and styling product off and after a while it won't be so greasy anymore. That is really enough. Washing your hair with shampoo only 2-3 times a week should be enough. You can, of course, trim it very short...

I often wear my hair up, mainly because my current job is not condusive to having it down, so I know lots of hair styles that are more "updos" than not.
The following are directions for my favorite. It is a little bit on the dressy side, but it will still work with jeans and a nice top or a casual dress.
Needed:
Brush/comb
Two ponytail holders
Bobby Pins
Hairspray (optional)
Instructions:
Make two ponytails, the first with the upper half of your hair, the second with the bottom half. It should look like two ponytails on top of each other. Starting with the first ponytail, take a smallish section and twist it tightly. Let it double up on itself. Pin the twist into place. Do this with all the hair, making sure to incorporate the lower ponytail twists into the upper ponytail twists to create one cohesive look, instead of two distinct bun-like structures.

I can't really recommend a product for straightening but I have a flat iron that is bad a** at straightening my hair. It's a WIGO. It was like $70 but was totally worth it. A friend of mine had a Revlon and it worked really well, her hair is out of control unless she uses it. Only $20 at walgreens or walmart I think.
